Toronto, ON – Dec 9, 2021 – Fresh off the release of his single “Lady Mine,” multi-platinum songwriter Josh Ramsay has teamed up with featured artist Chad Kroeger of Nickelback for a timeless and stylish performance video for the new track. Fans can watch now, here. “Lady Mine” was directed by Emma Higgins (Tegan and Sara, Jessie Reyez, Marianas Trench) and shot in a soundstage. Ramsay and Kroeger, who teased the video earlier this week on TikTok, are backed by a band of musicians, including a horn section, bass player, keys, and drums, with cinematic lighting and camera coverage to capture the performance of a lifetime.
“This song is so much fun. Making the video was even more fun,” shares Ramsay. “Just 2 hams, trying to make each other laugh. Once I heard both our vocals together, I thought we should’ve changed the title to, ‘the ballad of 2 chainsaws.’”
Adds Higgins: “‘Lady Mine’ is sexy, it’s a huge song, and it’s a powerhouse that keeps you at the edge of your seat! So needless to say, I felt we had our work cut out to make the video equally great, and I knew from the start that a performance video would be the best way to achieve this. Josh and Chad are obviously born to do this, and having both played the world over in their respective bands, they know how to ROCK. Working with them is a director’s dream in this way because they brought the same energy and sense of fun that they would in a live show. It was magic to watch them do their thing and should give people a bit of a taste of what it’s like to see them in concert which hopefully everyone will be able to do soon!”
“Lady Mine” is out now via 604 Records and is the lead single from Ramsay’s forthcoming debut solo album, The Josh Ramsay Show. Fans can look forward to a behind the scenes “Making Of” for “Lady Mine” later this week, as well as more music from Ramsay early next year.
No stranger to bold collaborations, Ramsay has worked with marquee names throughout his multifaceted career, including writing and performing credits with Carly Rae Jepsen, Nickelback, and 5 Seconds of Summer to name a few. In true Ramsay style, fans can expect a music offering that is nothing less than spectacular with plenty of familiar faces featured on the new album. These include JUNO and CCMA Award winner Dallas Smith, D.J. Sharkpocalypse, Fefe DobsonFionnRia MaeSara Ramsay, JUNO Award winner Serena RyderTyler Shaw and JUNO Award winner Chad Kroeger on “Lady Mine.”
During the start of the pandemic, Ramsay needed something to do while in isolation. He indulged himself by writing songs in as many different genres as possible. Josh explains, “my goal was to try and do as many genres as possible, so it feels kind of like a variety show. I see it as my ‘calling card’ – not just as a songwriter, but as a producer and arranger.” The Josh Ramsay Show is a sweeping exploration of musical styles featuring collaborations with a wide range of Canadian singers from across the musical spectrum that rings in at 18 tracks in all. This album is a love letter to music as a whole, never sticking to the same genre twice.
As with every project he takes on, Ramsay wanted to push his personal limitations and challenge himself as a songwriter, singer, player, and producer with this new single. He played every instrument on the track (except horns), produced it, and co-mixed it with longtime friend, Dave “Rave” Ogilvie. That’s always been a defining characteristic of his output as with Marianas Trench, and in his role as producer and songwriter for artists like Carly Rae Jepsen, whose worldwide hit, “Call Me Maybe” garnered Ramsay a Grammy nomination and a SOCAN Award for “Most Performed Song” in SOCAN history.
Ramsay has toured with Marianas Trench extensively in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. When not on the move, the multi-instrumentalist runs his own recording studio, The Umbrella Factory, in Vancouver, BC.
