Today, JF Dagenais updates fans about his current condition since testing positive with COVID_19 as well as spread awareness to the metal community.
Statement from JF : “Hey, folks! First, I want to thank everyone for the outpour of support from all our awesome fans and music colleagues around the world. It really gave me a morale boost! Last week started like any normal week. I was doing press for KATAKLYSM‘s new album Unconquered and on Wednesday morning I woke up and felt like I got hit by a train; I had a slight fever, body aches, and very low energy. The next day I went to my doctor after no improvement and they administered the COVID test to be on the safe side. It came back positive and I was shocked because I’m the extra careful type of guy. I wear a mask religiously, wash my hands, and barely go out. Anyhow, over the weekend I started to feel much better and started feeling like my old self again. Luckily, I am in decent health with no underlying conditions. I will self-quarantine at home with my family (so far they are fine) and will be free of this thing in no time. I don’t want to make a big thing out of this and overshadow the new album but wanted to share the news that anyone can get this so be careful out there It is a nasty bug, the first few days were brutal but at the end of the day I’m fine and I will get over it.”
Canadian melodic death metal heavyweights KATAKLYSM will unleash their 14th full-length studio album, UNCONQUERED, on September 25th via Nuclear Blast Records.
Recently, the band released the second album trailer discussing the artwork. Watch as Maurizio details the process of working with Blake Armstrong to bring the “Heart Beast” back to life: youtu.be/kEtFDQsqunM.
KATAKLYSM recently released the first single entitled, “The Killshot“. Watch the video directed byScott Hansen of Digital Thunderdome, here: https://youtu.be/Ku-rjJ5HXyU
The band comments, “‘The Killshot’ is very Machiavellian at its base meaning. The song deals with revenge and planning it out, I wrote the song in an open interpretation because everyone has their own story that they can attach to it. In general, the album deals with pain or setbacks, overcoming them and fighting back especially in today’s situation, the timing is on point. In February, we flew to Atlanta, Georgia and worked with director Scott Hanson. We saw some of his creations and wanted to try his style. The experience was awesome and we won’t forget it anytime soon. Everything went great but it was there, sitting at the airport that we first started seeing on all the screens that Covid-19 was about to shut down the country.”
UNCONQUERED was recorded andengineered bythe band’s long-time producer and guitarist JF Dagenais at JFD Studio in Dallas, TX. KATAKLYSM enlisted legendary Colin Richardson, post-retirement, to aid in the mixing of UNCONQUERED’s weightier and modernized sound with additional help from Chris Clancy’s technicality and precision.UNCONQUERED stands among the best produced albums in the band’s career.
The infamous heart beast, which also appeared on In The Arms Of Devastation (2006), Prevail (2008), and Heaven’s Venom (2010), makes its return with a cover image created by artist Blake Armstrong.
