At the early age of four-years-old, Social Distortion frontman Mike Ness began listening to AM Radio where he discovered The Beatles, CCR, The Supremes and The Rolling Stones. Growing up in Fullerton, California, he was also raised on blues and country and would eventually stumble upon his first Gibson guitar at the local pawn shop.
JOE BARRESI

Joe Barresi and his Gibson Les Paul.
While he’s known for producing and mixing heavyweights such as Tool, Alice In Chains, Queens of The Stone Age, Puscifer, The Melvins, Nine Inch Nails, Satyricon, Coheed and Cambria and Avenged Sevenfold, Joe Barresi is also a avid guitarist and guitar collector. While Joe picked up the guitar at the age of seven, it was during a trip to Mandolin Brothers in Staten Island, NY many years later that he came across what would become his first Gibson guitar.

While known for his characters on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development and The Goldbergs, and many films, comedian and actor, Jeff Garlin is also a guitarist and Gibson fan. In this episode of “My First Gibson,” Jeff talks about his beloved J-45 Custom Acoustic Guitar.

Formed in Los Angeles, CA in 1977, punk legends Fear were responsible for shaping the sound of California hardcore punk. In his early years, Fear frontman Lee Ving began learning country influenced guitar in Philadelphia with his teacher Anne Brown. It was during this class he heard the song “Guitar Boogie” played on a Gibson Les Paul and shortly after made arrangements with his parents to purchase his very first Gibson.
JARED JAMES NICHOLS
Jared James Nichols talks about his Gibson Les Paul Studio.
In 2010, Jared James Nichols left his hometown of East Troy, Wisconsin to pursue studies at Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles, CA. That same year, he entered a guitar contest where he won his very first Gibson guitar, a Les Paul Studio in Faded Cherry.
STEVE CABALLERO

Steve Caballero and his Gibson Les Paul.
Growing up as a fan of skateboarding and punk rock, Steve Caballero began writing songs and playing music with his band The Faction. While initially playing bass, it was in the summer of 1984 that he made the switch to guitar and purchased his very first Gibson guitar.
GILBY CLARKE
Gilby Clarke and his Gibson Les Paul.
Growing up as a fan of The Rolling Stones, KISS and David Bowie, Gilby Clarke fell in love with guitar at an early age while living in Cleveland, Ohio. While working at a gas station one summer afternoon, he discovered his very first Gibson that would end up becoming his go-to guitar throughout his entire career.
BILLY HOWERDEL

Billy Howerdel and his Gibson Les Paul.
As the lead guitarist and songwriter of A Perfect Circle and Ashes Divide, Billy Howerdel got his start in music as a guitar technician working for bands such as Tool, Fishbone, Faith No More and The Smashing Pumpkins. But it was during a two- year stint as Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails’ guitar tech that he came across a Les Paul that would end up becoming his first Gibson guitar.
TOM KEIFER

Growing up in Pennsylvania, Tom Keifer of Cinderella fell in love with guitar and the blues at a very young age. When Tom informed his Mom that he wanted to leave High School to tour with a band, she made him an offer he simply couldn’t refuse.
JADE PUGET

Jade Puget and his Gibson Les Paul Studio.
As the guitarist of AFI, Jade Puget began learning how to play the instrument on his Father’s Gibson Les Paul Studio. That guitar was eventually gifted to Jade and appeared on studio albums, stood on world stages and has become a part of Jade’s life story.
ERIK PAPAROZZI

Erik Paparozzi and his Gibson ES-335.
As the rhythm guitarist in Cat Power, Erik Paparozzi has toured the world several times over with his trusted Gibson ES-335. After many visits to Jack’s Music in Redbank, NJ in 1989, he purchased his very first Gibson that would go on to become his number one guitar for the next 30 years.
KJ APA

KJ Apa and talks about his Gibson SG.
KJ Apa is known for his role as Archie Andrews on the CW drama series “Riverdale” and the comedy-drama “A Dog’s Purpose.” Growing up in New Zealand, he became a huge fan of Angus Young and Gibson’s legendary SG guitar. Watch KJ in the new film “I Still Believe” out now.
