SEPTEMBER 15, 2020 (NASHVILLE, TN) — The Brummies offer a little spice and flavor to the work week with the 80s themed, black-lit music video for “After Midnight.” The Nashville-based, Alabama-bred trio rock out in the basement alongside choreographed aerobic dancers and some creatures of the night inspired by the 1989 family fantasy flick “Little Monsters.” The band even enlisted some family members and close friends to jump in on the adventure.
“This is our dark disco song,” explains Jacob. Trevor continues, “It started with me playing this rhythm on keys one night. At first, it was this long rocking jam that went into this dark halftime outro.”
“It was particularly fun. I was looking for something that deviated from the main melody in the chorus” John explains of the harmonies. “This song started on a synth, which is the first thing you hear in the song. That was always compelling and it eventually evolved into what is now ‘After Midnight’.”
Variance Magazine, who originally premiered the track, “it might seem like summer is quickly disappearing (or maybe it feels like it never arrived), but ‘After Midnight’ may just have you thinking twice about that, delivering the perfect escape from these weird times.”
Only two years ago, The Brummies made their debut in 2018 with the full-length album Eternal Reach, which received high praise from critics and featured GRAMMY Award-winning singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves on the song “Drive Away.” The band returned this year with “Hillside,” which was featured in the trailer for Dads, a film-festival favorite directed by Bryce Dallas Howard. Their last single “Sunshine” captured the essence of the late Bill Withers and now “After Midnight” takes listeners to the darkside.
The Brummies are composed of John Davidson, Jacob Bryant, and Trevor Davis. Known for their fresh blend of urgent rock & roll, dreamy indie-folk, and piercing songwriting, the band has a timeless sound crafted by three players in possession of an almost telekinetic musical shorthand.
