“Cinematic reenactment of an
emotionally charged original song” – PopMatters
July 8, 2020 – LOS ANGELES, CA – LA based alternative – pop band Paper Jackets has shared their latest single and accompanying video “Miss You” premiering now with Pop Matters. The song showcases the pop-laced influences behind the “luminous band” while holding fast to their alternative roots while the video, directed by Alex Bordoni and featuring Paper Jackets members James Mason and Aimee Proal, is described by the band as “a modern day confessional of a seemingly normal person acting crazy, lost in love and suggests that maybe we all have a list of strange behaviors worth exploring.” Fans can check out “Miss You” at
“Drawing from our own experiences as hopeless romantics, we came together in Brooklyn last year on tour and wrote this song within 20 mins or so. To the bone it’s a simple love song with high aspirations and optimism for new partnerships or the rekindling of lost flings.” shares frontman James Mason on “Miss You.” “What really makes this song special to us is that it’s the first song we wrote with Aimee as the completed line up. It reflects a clearer vision of what’s ahead in 2020 vs. what worked already for us in the past. I’m more surprised by the female counterparts than I ever imagined and the band feels lifted up by Aimee’s voice and energy.”
“Miss You” joins previously released singles “What They Call Life” and “Baby Teeth” from the band’s upcoming collection of tracks Souvenirs Volume Onedue out this Friday, July 10th. These 10 tracks are one part of a collection that stretches and pulls at the genre of alternative rock. The album reveals a nostalgic theme throughout; touching on creative moments the band has experienced together to addiction and it’s many forms. Souvenirs Volume One is available to pre-save now at
Paper Jackets was formed in 2016 as each musician was rotating through a number of Sunset Strip jam nights. What started as a few random meetings and sessions has since blossomed into a six-piece group consisting of James Mason (vocals), Emily Dickinson (keyboard, live backing vocals), Jonny Vesely (guitar), Miles Franco (bass, live backing vocals), David Allen (drums) and Aimee Proal (vocals). After releasing the EP Don’t Lose Your Head in 2018, Mason & co. grabbed opening slots for Bishop Briggs and the X Ambassadors and they haven’t slowed down since.
For all members of Paper Jackets, the road to creating this record has been long and not without its bumps. However, they’re more than excited for whatever the next steps may be. “There’s a sense of urgency,” says Mason, speaking to the album as a whole. “There’s this mentality of, we have to do this now, we have to make these songs now…There’s this artistic force that pushes me in that way.” Whatever force they are following, they’re sure to take some souvenirs for the road.
