SummerStage Anywhere digital schedule for week of July 13-19:

Monday, July 13th: Monday Meditations will take over the SummerStage Instagram channel live every Monday at 12:00PM ET for a 30-minute workshop focused on keeping your mind and body happy, healthy and active with guest host Karine Plantadit, former Alvin Ailey and Broadway Tony Award nominated dancer (Come Fly Away, The Lion King), instructor, choreographer, certified yoga teacher and life coach.

Monday, July 13th: Joan Myers Brown, Founder of the Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO) and The Philadelphia School of Dance Arts, will join SummerStage Dance Curator Danni Gee for the next live episode of Soundcheck: Curator Conversations tonight at 7:00PM ET live on the SummerStage Instagram channel. Brown was awarded the 2012 National Medal of the Arts by President Obama who recognized her for carving out “an artistic haven for African American dancers and choreographers to innovate, create, and share their unique visions with the national and global dance communities.” The discussion will focus on growing up as a young ballet dancer and facing discrimination, starting her school and company to give young black dancers a place to train, what still needs to happen in terms of “Diversity” in the Arts specifically with Dance and more.

Tuesday, July 14th: Global Grammy winner, SummerStage alumna and “Africa’s premier diva” (Time Magazine) Angélique Kidjo will join in conversation from Paris, France with veteran lifestyle and social justice journalist Amy “Aimstar” Andrieux from New York City for a Culture Talk at 8:00pm ET across all SummerStage social channels. As a performer, Kidjo’s striking voice, stage presence and fluency in multiple cultures and languages have won respect from her peers and expanded her following across national borders. Kidjo has cross-pollinated the West African traditions of her childhood in Benin with elements of American R&B, funk and jazz, as well as influences from Europe and Latin America. Andrieux is the current Executive Director and Chief Curator at the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Art in Brooklyn. She has also left an incredible footprint in the journalism world in the areas of music, fashion, film, art, travel, technology, progressive movements and social justice as a creative leader at TRACE, MTV.com, MTV World (where she became the first Black Editorial Director at Viacom), The Source, Ketchum, Red Bull Studios and Red Bull Media House and TranslationLLC / UnitedMasters. The rich discussion between the two will focus on the influence of music from the African Diaspora in the world, Angelique’s foundation Batonga and her role as an activist, how her home country of Benin’s music tradition/culture has formed her and more.

Wednesday, July 15th: Indie rock singer/songwriter Patrick Watson will deliver a live performance from Canada for an exclusive SummerStage Anywhere Session performance at 8:00PM ET across all SummerStage social channels. What was once regarded as a “temporary project”, Watson recently released Love Songs For Robots, his 5th release. His music is often considered to be a blend of cabaret pop with classical influence. In 2007 he was awarded Canada’s Polaris Music Prize for his album Close to Paradise and his band has been touted by Rolling Stone as a “can’t-miss act”.

Thursday, July 16th: DJ Lobo, one of New York’s most prominent socially active Latino trendsetters, will take over SummerStage’s social media accounts with a live DJ set as part of our SummerStage Anywhere Weekly Beat: DJ Session at 8:00PM ET. DJ Lobo started his radio career in 2000 and has always maintained a Number One Hispanic ranked spotas “El Matatan.” He has worked previously as an on-air radio personality at SBS La Mega 97.9 FM and Univision’s La X 96.3fm and recently launched the DJ Lobo App so you can have his mixes with you on the go!

Friday, July 17th: Kool DJ Red Alert will be taking over the SummerStage social channels at 8:00PM ET for a very special SummerStage Anywhere Weekly Beat: DJ Session, going live from Big Room partner venue DROM, fully equipped with Big Room’s automated live streaming production system. Red is the only hip hop deejay honored in the Radio Section of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Heralded as a pioneering hip hop deejay responsible for the emergence of rap music on the radio during the early 80s, Kool DJ Red Alert is highly acclaimed among deejays worldwide. Harlem-born, he rose to fame on his legendary mixshow “Red Alert Goes Beserk” on New York’s KISS 98.7 FM (formerly WRKS), which first aired in 1983. DJ Red Alert can currently be heard on 98.7 Kiss FM in New York City, The Sirius Satellite-XM Network in the United States and 92.5 Youth Radio in St Martin, which transmits to 10 different surrounding Caribbean Islands. He will be joined by special guest NYC collective Main Source who will rock the mic with classic hip hop. One of the only hip hop groups in history to unite artists from New York City and Canada, Main Source’s diversified sound is due in no small part to their border-crossing origins.
