APRIL 12, 2021 (LOS ANGELES, CA) — joe rico is delivering pizzas by day and writing smash hits with his roommate by night. He’s a laidback blend of indie-alternative West Coast energy and early 00s rap. Calling joe anything else besides ‘the next big thing’ would be a disservice to his understated ability to get people moving.
A carefree, easygoing child of a single mother and an undocumented Mexican immigrant, joe’s upbringing heavily influenced his upcoming project. joe is currently based in Ridgecrest, CA but has spent most of his life moving around. From Iowa to Arizona, back to Iowa, and then finally landing in California, joe grew up with an eclectic childhood that’s reflected in his music and his taste. Dr. Dre and Jack Johnson are in his all time fav 5 along with Linkin Park, Ryan Tedder and Eminem.
It’s not about stacks for joe. His mom owns a local hair salon in Kern County, CA and he’s always said that he wants his music to pop off so he can provide for her. joe’s mom gave him his musical start; singing around the house and making sure that visual arts were a big part of his childhood.
joe shares, “What mainly inspires me to write would be my desire to create. Whether it’s a story or something I show depth in, the writing process is usually the same. This new music is proof to myself that you can have a vision from day one and through that growth and development you can produce something great.”
In his free time, joe hangs out with his cat Dewey and plays chess on
chess.com’s app (he’s currently undefeated with an 11-0 win streak). So it’s no surprise that joe is always thinking ahead; strategizing and planning what his next move is…he’s already started working on his second EP.
With a little co-production help from GRAMMY-nominated producer Imad Royal (Doja Cat, Oliver Tree, etc.) and Blake Bigfoot (his roommate), joe’s first release into the world is already turning label heads. Imad says “When I listened to Joe for the first time I was blown away. He had a fresh perspective on alternative music that felt effortless and genuine. After jumping on a FaceTime with him, I quickly realized he had the special sauce. I’m excited for people to hear this stuff and dive into his world!”
