April 5th, 2017 New York City, NY – Genre bending NYC-based band Tribe Society have released their brand new mixtape 27 – A tribute to members of the infamous 27 club – today in honor of the anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death. Fans can listen to the full mixtape here: and purchase the project here: 27 follows Tribe Society’s latest release We Sell Drugs, currently streaming on Apple Music, Spotify and Soundcloud.
27 gives new live and new-age energy to 7 tracks by Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, The Doors, Canned Heat, Fat Pat, Janis Joplin, and of course Nirvana. “These artists all have this immortality that lives on through their amazing music,” Tribe Society noted, “It was honestly hard to cover [these artists] because they are so untouchable.” From the deep bass hip-hop energy of their take on “Rehab” to the layered, chillwave vibes of “Mercedes Benz” – 27 takes on unforgettable classics and showcases them in a way they’ve never been heard before.
Hailing from NYC, Tribe Society is Gavin Merlot (vocals/guitar), Seth Hachen (flute/keyboard), Brad Alderman (keyboard) and Phil Boucher (drums). The four-piece came together as students at Berklee College of Music in Boston and regrouped post-grad in Washington Heights, diving head first into their 2015 mixtape Deliirium Sonata. The success of that project and their follow up EP Lucid Dreams (via Island Records) led to international tour stops, including their summer 2016 run with Goo Goo Dolls! With their latest project We Sell Drugs, lead single “Smoke Out The Window” brought the band over 4 million streams on Spotifywith featured track “Kings” hitting 4 million plus views on YouTube, shared by tastemaker Suicide Sheep.
In the years since their inception, Tribe Society have been praised by AXS, Substream Magazine, Alternative Press and Billboard who remarked that, “Tribe Society have such a strong creative energy with a taste of hip-hop, rock n’ roll and of course, that flute.” With 27, Tribe Society are staying true to their roots, while preserving the original sentiment of each powerful track. “Catchy but with a dark twist that’ll haunt you for days, (Baeble)” Tribe Society offer fans a sound that’s unlike any other and sticks with you even after the music stops.
27 is the latest release from Tribe Society since their We Sell Drugs mixtape, released earlier this year. For more information please visit:
