27 gives new live and new-age energy to 7 tracks by Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, The Doors, Canned Heat, Fat Pat, Janis Joplin, and of course Nirvana. “These artists all have this immortality that lives on through their amazing music,” Tribe Society noted, “It was honestly hard to cover [these artists] because they are so untouchable.” From the deep bass hip-hop energy of their take on “Rehab” to the layered, chillwave vibes of “Mercedes Benz” – 27 takes on unforgettable classics and showcases them in a way they’ve never been heard before.
Hailing from NYC, Tribe Society is Gavin Merlot (vocals/guitar), Seth Hachen (flute/keyboard), Brad Alderman (keyboard) and Phil Boucher (drums). The four-piece came together as students at Berklee College of Music in Boston and regrouped post-grad in Washington Heights, diving head first into their 2015 mixtape Deliirium Sonata. The success of that projectand their follow up EP Lucid Dreams(via Island Records) led to international tour stops, including their summer 2016 run with Goo Goo Dolls! With their latest project We Sell Drugs,lead single “Smoke Out The Window” brought the band over 4 million streams on Spotify, with featured track “Kings” hitting 4 million plus views on YouTube, shared by tastemaker Suicide Sheep.
