Remember 1999? American Pie just came out, Tony Hawk landed his first ever 900, and everyone was FREAKING out about Y2K. There were also a slew of great power-pop/punk bands pumping out jams and the Maryland-based quartet, Classified Frequency, packages those vibes with a 2018 facelift. Today, you can hear their new single “Black Eye,” the title track from their new EP releasing on September 25th.
Premiering with Goldmine Magazine, vocalist/guitarist Matthew Berry says “‘Black Eye’ is kind of my warning to the world that if we don’t learn from history, we’re doomed to repeat it and it’ll be much worse the second time around.“
Named one of the “Top 5 Bands To See” by DC Music Download as well as “Band of the Month” by The Deli Magazine, Classified Frequency combine some of the best parts of pop/rock from each decade. The quartet has toured consistently and pounded the pavement in the DC and Baltimore scene, opening for acts like Gin Blossoms, The Last Year, Bad Seed Rising, and Rites of Ash.
Black Eye is a continuation of the band’s self-proclaimed “Fusion Cock Rock” sound, produced by Jim Ebert (Marvelous 3, Butch Walker, Meredith Brooks, All Time Low) and mixed by Jamie Woolford (The Gin Blossoms, The Story Changes, The Stereo).
