18,000 plus people descended on the Amway Center on Friday, January 27th to see Billy Joel. The crowd was feverish with excitement with every seat sold to watch him. This was no surprise for people to see the performer who last played in Orlando on New Year’s Eve 2014. Fans of all ages filled the seats from the floor to the upper bowl.
Billy Joel’s legacy in the music industry is unfounded. The Piano Man had 33 Top 40 hits, 23 Grammy nominations, and in 1999 was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He’s also a well known humanitarian performing at Concert for Sandy Relief back in 2012 to raise money and awareness for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. During a show at Madison Square Garden on June 17, 2016, Billy Joel tributed the victims of the Pulse shooting by performing “You’re Only Human (Second Wind)” a song he hadn’t performed in 25 years.
The two hour plus show at the Amway Center included some of his most notable songs including “My Life”, “Allentown”, “New York State of Mind”, “Uptown Girl” and of course, “Piano Man”. He also performed cover songs “Layla” by Derek and the Dominoes and “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC. As expected Billy Joel provided a stellar performance and left Orlando fans breathless and excited for his return on another tour.
